Colorado ~ Present Day

Alyssa McClaren’s planned Christmas vacation is about to be ruined by a visit from her disapproving mother-in-law. Alyssa can’t do anything to please the woman, including cooking a meal, but she’s joining them for Christmas. Alyssa argues with her husband, Minor, about it, to no avail, so she takes off on her own to the Colorado cabin they rented. Once there, she can’t help but miss Minor, even though she feels she did the right thing. Christmas morning Alyssa wakes up to find she has a visitor…Minor has shown up. Their reunion is hotter than the fire burning in the fireplace.

S’MORES is a touching story of a woman who has never gotten into the spirit of Christmas and family and decides all she wants for Christmas is a holiday without her criticizing mother in law. As much as she loves Minor, Alyssa feels she needs to make her stand, even if it means going alone to Colorado. Once Alyssa and Minor reunite, the sparks really fly sexually between them as they rediscover the magic that brought them together in the first place.

Looking for a warm, sensual read that’ll wet your holiday reading appetite? Pick up S’MORES today for a toasty tale.

S'mores is now available from!

Alyssa can't cook.

Alyssa can't have children.

Alyssa can't compare to the woman her mother-in-law thinks she should be.

Minor doesn't care.

Minor loves her anyway.

Will Minor make it to her in time?

Alyssa had special Christmas plans with her husband, Minor. They were to go away to a mountain cabin and be all alone. But when Alyssa's mother-in-law plans to visit for Christmas and Minor doesn't want to hurt her feelings be telling her they have other plans, Alyssa leaves without him. His mother has always been nasty to her, and after a big blow-out at Thanksgiving, Alyssa doesn't feel she can handle anymore, especially if Minor won't take up for her.

When Alyssa gets to the cabin, she realizes she may have made a mistake. She misses Minor, and now she'll have to use that present she got for him all by herself. But Minor has no intention of spending Christmas without his wife.

A private mountain cabin.

A fireplace.

A sexy man.

I have a few WIPs that I'm not working on. Can I still call them WIP? One of them with a deadline of December 1! Aack!

I'm taking a break and got suckered into my first Jennifer Crusie book. I can't put it down! I'm almost finished with it, hope I'll finish it today so I can get back into my real life. I love it, but I hate it. I hate it because I can't stop reading it, and I had things I wanted to do this weekend. Don't you hate books like that? LOL.

Payday was Friday, but then the bank was closed and my money won't go in until Monday. I planned on using some of that money to download some ebooks, preferably Christmas stories b/c I haven't read one of them in a long time and I need to get in the mood to shop soon. Now it'll have to be my reward for finishing my next story!

What Lies In Winter

When workaholic Hayley goes on a much-needed holiday to her favorite cabin hideaway tucked deep in the mountains of the Mammoth ski resort, she doesn’t expect to meet the beast of a man occupying her rental.

Bestselling mystery author, Nicholas Rhiordan, happens to have the same plan in mind, vacationing in his luxury cabin. He wants nothing better than to be left alone to finish his next novel, but when Hayley makes a surprise appearance, he discovers she’s hell-bent on disrupting his peaceful balance. Like any feral beast, his only recourse is to throw her out on her ass in a heap of snow and hope that she gets the hint.

When a relentless blizzard forces them to share the same quarters, their fiery personalities and equally combustible attraction could melt the ice caps off the snowy mountains. Once the storm blows over, will their connection fizzle like a snow flurry or will they pen a perfect ending?

Want to snuggle with him?

You can on December 10. My Christmas erotica, S'MORES, is being released by Phaze. Several other authors have Phaze Snugglers coming out soon.

Those Christmas songs I've been listening to paid off. Now if only I could get my shopping done. I haven't even started.

I have a Halloween story coming out as well, and it's my first vampire! I'll hope you'll read it and tell me what you think, because I never thought to write about vampires. It was fun! ONE SINFUL NIGHT is coming soon from The Wild Rose Press and can be found on their website.

What are you going to be for Halloween this year?

Christmas songs

I've been listening to Christmas songs today, trying to get "in the mood" as I write a Christmas story. It's almost finished, and I hope to have it submitted by Monday.

This is new to me. I never thought to write short stories and I never thought to write seasonal stories. It's fun, and opens up a new wave of creativity.

Contest Submission

I just submitted a short erotica to a contest for Halloween stories. I'm not sure they'll be interested. I think it's pretty good, but I've never written paranormal in my life. It's not so paranormal that it's creepy scary, and they are probably used to something much more imaginative and gruesome than my writing. But it was fun. I have other ideas for "short paranormals". Now I just have to write them. If I get this contracted, I know I will do my next paranormal. It'll give me more courage and inititiave, I think. And if I don't get it, well it was fun anyway and it helps to develop my muse.

Changing Seasons

I love the change in weather. It's been a hot and dry summer, the hottest I can remember having in a long time, but it's staring to cool down. The temperatures haven't been in the triple digits in the last few days, and I can see the trees move with the breeze. It's crisp in the mornings, just the way I like it, but you can still wear shorts.

I haven't mowed all summer, and last year we had to mow every two weeks just to keep the grass cut. It sucks, in a way, but then again I've had more time to write. The lake is lower than I ever remember it being, so much that bones of a human body in a rusted "drum" were found in the "lake" yesterday. Maybe God hadn't let it rain for a reason, because no telling how long this body has been there or would continue to be there. We've been bitching about the triple digits, but a family may have found their missing loved one. It's tragic no matter what, but I couldn't imagine the feeling of just "not knowing".

Of course, it's mostly bones now and they have to do forensics, etc. etc. to determine who it could be. Creepy, isn't it? And people wonder how I get my ideas. ;)

Ok, I'm going to try this blog thing. A little about me, I write erotica "quickies" under the pen name Jalena Burke. I have one out from Forbidden Publications, another coming in November, and have plans to submit a Halloween contest and a Christmas submission. I write short stories, but have a longer one in the works.

I also work full time and write RS under another name.

I just received my very first review for my short story, ME, MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR, AND BOB.
I'm very excited about this!

I have a contest until October 1 for a great basket of prizes. Check it out at my website.
